Humane Legislation

For those of you who live in New Jersey, there is a bill that is being considered that protects both women and pets.

Bill S540/A2509-A1633 advocates including pets in domestic violence restraining orders. Eighteen other states along with the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico have already passed similar bills into laws.

For those of you who are not aware, many victims of domestic violence choose to stay with the abuser in fear of retribution directed towards their beloved pets if the victim tries to leave.

If you would like to see this bill made into a law in NJ, please contact you local legislators and ask for the support on this bill. You can find you local legislators at http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/

  1. Thank you for that important information. We will pass it along to others.

  2. I can identify with this. However, when your life is in danger, you must flee. I did. The dog was ok and we lived out her life together with mine after the restraining order. She was the most incredible Dalmatian and I lost her at 12 1/2 yrs. Please, keep yourself safe first.
